FHE
I don't know why everytime I am trying to prepare for Family Home Evening, the spirit just like leaves our home, and the kids are constantly fighting. All afternoon they have been at each other's throats, then of course I am losing patience... WHY WHY WHY? I really do know why. Satan wants us not to have Family Home Evening. He doesn't want me to teach my children the gospel. He wants us to be miserable like he is. But I am determined this year that we are doing it every Monday night. We need this together time, whether Josh or Lauren want to do it or not! I told the kids if we do it each Monday, then on the months that have a 5th Monday, I will take them to Cici's pizza (sorry Chad... we aren't there!). Tonight I am using a lesson from one of the Primary books... I am a Child of God.

He stopped crying!
Like most of my children when they were younger, Joey is attached to his momma still!! So a momma's boy!! Sometimes it's okay, but some days, like Sunday's, I need him to be un-attached! The kid is 25 months old!! He has not enjoyed nursery at all. We tried a few times to leave him, but he would.never.stop.crying! Past few Sundays I have been teaching the 12-13 yr old SS class, and I need him in there. I can't teach because he distracts the teenagers (mainly, his big sister). Last week, he screamed the entire time I taught, so as soon as I was done, I took him out, and wham! Asleep just like that. Wore himself out! Today I put him in, and by the time class was done, he had stopped. I sneakily peaked in, and Big John Saffel was sitting next to him while eating snacks. I motioned for him to come here, and he told Joey that he would be back (Joey was starting to pucker up). Joey did not cry, and stayed in for the next hour without crying!!! Yay!! Can I be happy? Is this the start of a good nursery year? I mean, afterall, my baby starts Sunbeams next January!! YIKES!!! That is just to weird to think about!

I was released back in August as Relief Society secretary, and put in as Compassionate Service Leader along with still being Ward Chorister. Josh was recently called as the chorister. I was called as 2nd counselor in the Relief Society. Talk about CRAZY!!!!! I think the Lord wanted me to change my view on Enrichment (I only went for the food) because I did not enjoy it. Now I am in charge of it!! I am open to ALL IDEAS!!!!!!!!

Whatever Tom...
Tom Hanks, Executive Producer for HBO’s controversial polygamist series “Big Love,” made his feelings toward the Mormon Church’s involvement in California's Prop 8 (which prohibits gay marriage) very clear at the show’s premiere party on Wednesday night.
“The truth is this takes place in Utah, the truth is these people are some bizarre offshoot of the Mormon Church, and the truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen,” he told Tarts. “There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American and I am one of them. I do not like to see any discrimination codified on any piece of paper, any of the 50 states in America, but here's what happens now. A little bit of light can be shed and people can see who's responsible and that can motivate the next go around of our self correcting constitution and hopefully we can move forward instead of backwards. So lets have faith in not only the American, but Californian constitutional process.”

Of course he will be considered an outcast...
in Hollywood since he said this. But then I know that the scriptures/prophets tell us that in the last days there will be wars and rumors of wars... And there was an excellent article in an Ensign (that I read recently) that gave me comfort as well. (And I'm trying to find it to post the link!)

My brother, Brett is one of the attorneys in this case...
Trial date set in case of alleged teen bride
San Angelo, Texas » Texas child welfare authorities say a mother from a polygamous sect is now demonstrating "adequate and appropriate compliance" with a service plan for her daughter, who apparently was spiritually married at age 12 to sect leader Warren S. Jeffs.
But a spokesman for the Department of Family and Protective Services said the child's mother has much to do to convince authorities that her daughter has been abused but now would be safe in her care.
Patrick Crimmins said DFPS's primary goal is keep the girl in permanent state custody, as laid out in a Dec. 22 report filed with the 51st District Court in San Angelo. However, he said, the possibility remains that the girl could return to her mother.
In that report, DFPS said the child's mother, Barbara Jessop, failed a home study because she did not provide a "plan for how she might protect'' her daughter from being placed in another marriage. Crimmins said Barbara Jessop also has refused to acknowledge her daughter was married and sexually abused.
But Thursday, 51st District Judge Barbara Walther signed an agreed order saying Jessop is making progress. She also ordered a home study to see if the girl can be placed with Naomi Carlisle, a sect member and family friend. The girl has been in two different foster homes since August.
A trial that could settle her is set for Sept. 28.
Members of the Fundamentalist Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints live on a ranch in nearby Eldorado. The sect has property in British Columbia, Utah and other states. The Salt Lake Tribune is not identifying the girl, a daughter of ranch bishop Merrill Jessop, because the state alleges she is a sexual assault victim.
Now 14, she is the only child among the 439 removed from the ranch last April who remains in state custody.
Walther ordered her returned to foster care after her mother refused to answer questions in court and balked at cooperating with caseworkers.
Merrill Jessop presided over the girl's marriage in 2006, according to court documents. He was indicted last fall by a Schleicher County Grand Jury for performing an illegal marriage, criminal scrutiny that may explain why he has failed to participate in his daughter's case.
Michele L. Surratt, DPFS attorney, told Walther she has been unable to reach Merrill Jessop and said he apparently has no legal representation. Walther said she will appoint an attorney to represent him.
The girl is one of 14 children with lawsuits still pending before Walther, who on Thursday dismissed a 15th case that also involved a girl who allegedly was married to Jeffs when she was 12.
During the hearing, the teenager sat on one side of the courtroom while her mother and brother Dan sat on the other.
Carmen Dusek, the girl's attorney ad litem, initially refused to allow them to interact, but finally relented during a recess. Dan Jessop shook his sister's hand and chatted quietly with her; Barbara Jessop hugged her daughter and spoke to her. After the hearing, mother and daughter were allowed a few moments together in a hallway.
Barbara Jessop's attorneys, Brett H. Pritchard and Valerie Malara, declined to comment after the hearing.
But FLDS spokesman Willie Jessop, who insists the girl was not abused, said "our hope is that when the judge is presented with all the facts she will return this girl back to her community and back to her family.
"We're going to do everything we can to get [her] home," he said. "This will be a case where no child is left behind in the raid."

Jacob could use your prayers
Because he is under constant care of a pediatric endo for his diabetes, his doctor is always checking Jacob out at each appointment to make sure everything is working okay. Back in October, he checked Jacob's private area for the 1st time, and noticed that one side was not down. (I am going to put this as *nice* as possible) His doctor wanted to check it again at this last appointment to just see if maybe it was a fluke or something, since I had never been told of anything wrong with him. He checked, and yes, it was still the same. He refered us to a urologist, and we saw him that afternoon. That doctor was also a bit concerned, so he wanted Jacob to have an ultrasound done at the hospital immediately. He got it done, and today we got the results. I don't know the correct terms that they said, but basically the doctor is concerned enough with the results that he wants surgery done on BOTH sides because BOTH sides are not right. Of course I had to tell Jacob (very privately) that he was going to have to have surgery, and I could tell he was kind of upset. I reassured him as best I could, and continued with dinner. A short while later, the girls told me that Jacob was crying. I went into his room, and the poor kid is bawling. I told him to tell me about it, and he said he is just scared (he has every right too!). I tried to reassure him again, but I don't know how much I can give since I am just a *girl*. Shawn said that he would talk with him.

I let her have one because her cousins have one, and she likes to do things like this. At the time of me typing this, she hasn't even seen her blog yet (she told me to do one for her today while she was at school), so I am sure within the next few days she will have it up & running! Check it out! Her link is under *FAMILY BLOGS*

Am I the only one?
It's the 5th of January, and my Christmas tree is still up. Granted everything is off, and my decorations are put away, but I am trying to decide what kind of container I wanted to buy to store it in. I can't find one (went to Lowes today for the hopes of getting one there), so back to the box it has been in. I'll finish it tomorrow.
